VDE Portable Socket-outlets Testing requirements for the Temperature Rise Test according to DIN VDE 0620-1 DIN VDE 0620-1 With immediate effect, cords having a cross sectional area of 1.0 qmm are not allowed for portable socket-outlets with VDE / VDE GS Mark. Tests performed by the VDE Institute have shown, that protable socket-outlets having cords of this cross sectional area always exceed the allowed temperature limits according to DIN VDE 0298-300. The VDE Institute has informed his customers about this fact by the following letter:16:50 23.02.2009 ,1.0QMMVDEVDE GS.VDEDIN VDE 0298-300.VDE2009.2.23 16:50. For portable socket-outlets – consisting of socket-outlet, cord & plug – the temperature rise test according to DIN VDE 0620-1:2005-04, differing from table 20, has to be applied at a testing current of 20A on all parts of the product (socket-outlets, cord and plug) – irrespective of the cross sectional area, see also EK1 decision No.393-08. – \ – DIN VDE 0620-1:2005-04,20,(\)20A-,EK1393-08. Therefore it is necessary, to supplement the testing requirements according to the safty-relevant gaps found in the standard. ,. This means, that e.g. a temperature rise test on portable socket-outlest according to DIN VDE 0620-1:2005-04 at a testing current of 20A is necessary irrespective of the cross sectional area. If for this product, a cord having a cross sectional area of 1.0 qmm is used, a temperature rise measurement directly on the cord is also involved. ,,DIN VDE 0620-1:2005-0420A,.,1.0QMM,. Based on the tests performed so far on 1.0 qmm cords the allowed temperature limits according to DIN VDE 0298-300 (VDE 0298 Part 300):2004 tables 4A/4B are always exceeded. For this reason it is no longer possible to certify products having a cross sectional area of 1.0 qmm. 1.0QMMDIN VDE 0298(VDE 0298 300):20044A4B,1.0QMM. The current marks approvals will be adjusted, i.e. the cross sectional area of 1.0 qmm will be deleted from the certificates. ,,1.0. Hence from now on with immediate effect, cords having a cross sectional area of 1.0 qmm are not allowed for portable socket-outlets with VDE / VDE GS Mark. This fact will be published on our homepage in the internet. ,,1.0QMMVDEVDE GS.VDE. DIN VDE 0620-1:2005-04 We will inform you about the following actual situation: The proposition of "Committee for Technical Work Equipment & Consumer Products (AtAV)" dated 2008-05-20 to cancel the standard DIN VDE 0620:2005-04 (Plugs & socket-outlets for household & similar purposes) from the list of "presumption of conformity afflicted standards" has been accepted during a written decision procedure (mentioned in a notification from the agency of AtAV with date 2008-08-21). For this reason it is necessary to complement the testing process of standard DIN VDE 0620-1:2005-04 with the new relevant safety regulations. That means for example that for the unlimited use of plugs additional temperature rise tests with higher current must be performed (0,5 mm2 with 3,1 A; 0,75 mm2 with 12,5 A; 1,0 mm2 & 1,5 mm2 with 20 A). If it is not possible to perform this temperature rise tests with the higher currents, & the required results will not be fulfilled as well, the usage of the plugs must be limited in the approval. : 2008520"(ATAV)"DIN VDE 0620:2005-04()(2008-8-21). ,DIN VDE 0620-1:2005-04. ,,:0.5 QMM – 3.1A 0.75 QMM – 12.5A 1.0/1.5 QMM – 20A |
